A 2019 Love Story

We first meet Katya at The Phluid Project outside the fitting room, visiting her gender-neutral friend, Timur, who works there; engaged in a dreamy conversation about a recent date, Peter Mercury (who also identifies as gender-neutral), all while trying on different outfits she’ll be seen wearing throughout the video.

After Timur asks how Katya feels about Peter, she breaks into dance across the city with a diverse and eclectic array of citizens, patrons, dancers, venues and singers; revealing the exciting connections and diversity that lies within the island of Manhattan.

Once Upon A Time

KATYA is an award-winning singer, songwriter and performer from Russia. Releasing her first US track; a cover to Dead or Alive’s 80’s classic “You Spin Me Round”, with a fresh contemporary feel, while celebrating the gender free movement and expression of free identity through music.

From 2006-2010, Lee was the lead singer of a national revered pop/dance group called Hi-Fi, performing in 20 countries including sold-out shows on the Kremlin stage. Thereafter, she joined an all-girl pop act, Fabrika, which earned her a Golden Gramophone (Russian Grammy) as well as massive media coverage from Rolling Stone and Billboard to Hello and Grazia amongst others.

Often clad in hand-made light-reflective jumpsuits of her own design and creation, enhanced with 3D-printed elements, cameras, LEDs, plexiglass, and sustainable faux fur, Lee’s work is a commentary on female utopian alien society, evoking a postmodernist, other worldly space commander.

The Phluid Project exists to empower individuals to be themselves. To express themselves openly, without judgement or fear - only freedom. The Phluid Project store is intentionally focused on gender-neutral clothing and aims to fill a void in the consumer landscape by creating an inclusive and socially engaged community space. Founder, Rob Smith, wanted to ensure that every aspect of Phluid was purposeful, impactful, and conscientious. And the message is consistent: Phluid’s social code asks everyone to “enter [this] space with an open heart.”
